Development of houses quantity in risk areas in Tucunduba basin, Belém – Pará

Abstract

The aim of this work is to analyze the evolution of house’s quantity on risk areas in Tucunduba basin, between 2006 and 2016, in Belém - PA. The major factors related with risks are associated with urbanization process started in past decades integrated with the planning and infrastructure default. The occupation process on inappropriate areas for living increase the local resident’s risk and resources degradation. The study area refers to an expansion zone of Belém, PA, which has been undergoing a disorderly urbanization process by a low-income population and no planned infrastructure services. The research aimed to evaluate through satellite images two risk areas in the basin, A1: in the Caraparú channel A2: in the Dom Zinco Passage. The data were obtained by CPRM and processed in the Qgis 3.6 platform for the generation of sectorization board and evaluation of the changes processes in the area in those years. Notable population densification was found in both risk areas in the Tucunduba basin. The areas presented a high degree of vulnerability and risks associated with flooding, and area 2 assumes aspects of Permanent Preservation Area (PPA).
